Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per pale Argent (Silver Gray) and Azure (Flag Blue), on the dexter a bend sinister triparted per bend sinister Gules, Or and Azure, on the sinister the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center of the first; a chief lowered of the fourth thereon a sword silhouette fesswise point to dexter of the second charged with a lightning bolt fesswise of the first.  Attached around the bottom of the shield is a Dark Blue scroll doubled and inscribed "NEVER FORGET" in Silver letters.

Symbolism
Blue is associated with the Infantry and is also the color for loyalty, love of country, unit, and family.  Scarlet embodies sacrifice and valor.  Gold is emblematic of honor and excellence.  The scarlet, yellow (Gold), and blue stripes are adapted from the "Rainbow" shoulder sleeve insignia of the 42d Infantry Division during World Wars I and II.  The Twin Towers represent the World Trade Center and the 42d Infantry Division's call to duty for the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).  "Never Forget" recalls the sacrifice of innocent lives on September 11, 2001.  The sword with the lightning flash on the blade underscore the Battalion's ability to defend, support, and communicate when called upon to defend the Homeland.  The motto scroll is the same shape used on the New York State Seal.
